BACK TO SCHOOL: CONSIDER CREATING A ONE PAGE PROFILE OF YOUR STUDENT
Take the opportunity to create a one-page profile of your student to send to their teachers/specialists. Here are some suggestions, ideas, and templates to make this a breeze.
Include a photo of your kiddo if you have one easily accessible and highlight their strengths/challenges/what helps/how they do with remote learning. This is NOT just a summary of the IEP although you could include important parts of the IEP if you think they should be highlighted. This idea is also great for kids with 504 accommodations. (In fact, this idea could be good for ALL kids.)
Consider giving hints about your child (Examples: being called on cold or reading aloud is anxiety-provoking; Content/Theme Triggers; How your child best recovers from being upset; Is humor helpful or harmful; is anxiety underneath behavioral challenges; is trauma in their history; helpful words or strategies that work from outside therapists; etc.)
The Mighty shared their editable templates for these one-sheet profiles.
If you do this, plan on giving this to teachers/specialists in the first couple of weeks of school, after they've had time to meet your child, but before you get too deep into the school year.
